WHL Ride for the Kids Event Kicked Off Today7-Jun-11
The Swift Current Broncos hold their portion of the “WHL Ride for the Kids” event presented by Scotiabank, today and tonight, Tuesday, June 7th.
This afternoon at lunch time, the Broncos held a BBQ and Bake Sale at Scotiabank from 11:00AM – 1:30PM. A hotdog or hamburger and a pop was sold for $4.00 (with all proceeds going directly to the Children’s Hospital). This portion of the event was sponsored by Scotiabank, Safeway, Treen Packers and Big Sky Cycles.
The second half of the event will take place at tonight's Swift Current Indians matchup with the Edmonton Prospects (starting at 7PM). The bike riders will be introduced during the seventh inning stretch and they will be available to sign autographs during and after the game. There will also be a silent and live auction. Tickets to the game are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and $3.00 for kids ages 6-12. The Swift Current Indians will donate $1.00 from each ticket sold to the Children’s Hospital.
The Broncos will wrap up their leg of the race the next morning with a brief send off for the bike riders in the Scotiabank lobby (starting at 8:00AM).
The confirmed NHL/WHL alumni attending the event are:
- Kelly Chase
- Curtis Leschyshyn
- Dave Chartier
- Mike Keane
- Colby Armstrong
- Riley Armstrong
- Darcy Hordichuk
- Derek Dorsett
The Broncos would like to thank all of the sponsors for their tremendous help in raising awareness for this notable cause. Scotiabank will match every dollar raised.
“We are happy to be a part of such an exciting event!” states Bronco Sales Consultant, Leigh Duquette. “We would like to thank everyone that came out for today's BBQ and also everyone that has donated so far and we are looking forward to seeing a great turn out at the baseball game tonight!”
The “WHL Ride for the Kids” event will see former NHL and WHL players participating in a 655 kilometre bike relay across Saskatchewan to raise awareness and funding for the new Children’s Hospital in Saskatchewan.
