Broncos Take Comeback Win Over Raiders
13-Sep-12The Swift Current Broncos would come back from a two goal deficit to defeat the Prince Albert Raiders 4-2 at the Art Hauser Centre Thursday evening.
Jonas Knutsen would waste no time putting the Raiders on the board just over two minutes into the opening frame. Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mark McNeill would up Prince Albert's lead to two with 30 seconds to spare in the first frame, forcing the Broncos to carry a 2-0 deficit into the second.
Scoring would halt up until the 15 minute mark of the middle frame as veteran forward Josh Derko would put the Broncos on the board with a shorthanded marker (and his first of the 2012 pre-season) to put the Broncos within one after 40 minutes of play.
The third period would turn more to the Broncos favour. A Slashing call to Raiders' Zach Hodder, would allow the Broncos their second power play of the night. Graham Black would tally the game-tying goal one minute into the man advantage following through off of a feed from Ryon Moser and Reece Scarlett. At the 15 minute mark of the final frame, Adam Lowry would give the Broncos their first lead of the night as he added his first goal of the 2012 pre-season to the mix. Prince Albert would pull netminder Luke Siemens in the dying minutes of play for the extra attacker, but the game wouldn't end quite as planned for the Raiders as Derko would seal the deal with an empty-netter (his second of the game) to make it a 4-2 final.
Netminder Eetu Laurikainen stopped 36 out of 38 shots for the win, while the Broncos went 1 for 3 on the man advantage.
UP NEXT: The Broncos host the Prince Albert Raiders at the Gull Lake Recreational Complex on Saturday to wrap up not only their home-and-home series, but their 2012 pre-season. Then, the Broncos travel to Mosaic Place on Friday to battle the Moose Jaw Warriors and kick off their 2012-13 regular season.
