Broncos Road Woes Continue

Special teams would play a big factor in the Swift Current Broncos 5-1 loss to the Kootenay Ice at the Cranbrook Recreational Complex Wednesday night as four out of the six goals between both teams would be scored on the man advantage.

Bronco captain Taylor Vause would open the scoring midway through the first frame on their second power play of the evening to make it a 1-0 contest.  But, a power play marker by Brock Montgomery in the final minutes of the frame would even the game at one heading into the second period.

Roughly seven minutes into the middle frame Max Reinhart and Elgin Pearce would round up three goals in under two minutes to give Kootenay a giant boost as they took a 4-1 lead.  The fourth Ice goal would end netminder Jon Groenheyde's night as Austin Smith would fill in between the posts.

The Broncos would outshoot the Ice 14-12 in the third period, but a power play marker by Jagger Dirk near the end of the frame would seal the deal and make it a 5-1 final.

The Broncos had 34 shots on net and went 1 for 3 on the man advantage.

UP NEXT:  The Broncos Central Division road trip continues as they stop in Red Deer, AB to take on the Rebels on Friday and then battle the Edmonton Oil Kings on Saturday.

BRONCO BANTER:

Taylor Vause leads the team in power play goals with nine.  He is now only four points away from the 50 point mark this season.

Brad Hoban is now only six games shy of the 300 WHL career games played mark.

Wednesday's contest marked prospect Dakota Odgers first WHL game.

Josh Derko and Ice's Brock Montgomery had a quick scrap, marking Derko's sixth fight of the season.
