Broncos Name Cave CaptainSep 26, 2013 - 11:24 CST
Swift Current Broncos General Manager and Head Coach, Mark Lamb, announced that Colby Cave has been named the team’s captain for the 2013-14 season, while Dillon Heatherington, Coda Gordon and Graham Black have been named alternates based on a team vote. Cave will become the 27th captain in franchise history, succeeding Adam Lowry who captained the team in the 2012-13 season.
Acquired by the Broncos from the Kootenay Ice in January 2011, Cave is entering his third WHL season. The 6’, 187-pound product of North Battleford, SK was selected by the Kootenay Ice in the first round, 13th overall, of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.
Cave has recorded four points (1G,3A) in two games played so far this season. In 2012-13, Cave set career highs recording 21 goals, 20 assists and 41 points in 72 games played, more than doubling his point totals from the 2011-12 campaign.
“It’s a true honour to be named captain of such a respectable organization,” says Cave. “This organization goes back a long way. Just seeing some of the former captains and their names up on the wall, guys like Adam Lowry and Zack Smith, it’s quite an honour to be put into the same group as them. I hope to prove everyone right and keep this team on the right track and win some games.”
Cave will make his debut as Broncos captain Friday night as the Broncos host the Moose Jaw Warriors on Magnet Schedule Giveaway.
