Broncos Fall to Hurricanes

Dec 17, 2011 - 19:56 GMT

The Swift Current Broncos dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on their Teddy Bear Toss night at the ENMAX Centre.

Play would remain scoreless until 45 seconds into the middle frame when Graham Hood would capitalize on the Hurricanes third power play opportunity of the evening and send a rain of teddy bears to the ice.  After a minor clean up delay the Broncos would get their first power play opportunity, but it wouldn't go quite as planned as Lethbridge's Cam Braes would add a shorthanded marker to the mix upping their lead to two.  The scoring would halt from that point on until 14 minutes into the frame when Hurricanes' defenceman Russell Maxwell would add a single and make it 3-0.  Two minutes later, rookie Coda Gordon would tally his 15th of the season scoring a much needed goal for the Broncos and closing the gap to two.

In the third, Lethbridge's Albin Blomqvist would score on a breakaway early into the frame to restore the Hurricanes' three goal lead.  The goal would result in a netminder change for the Broncos as Austin Smith would fill in for the duration of play.  Unfortunately, the Broncos would throw 10 shots on net in the third, but wouldn't be able to follow through as they would fall 4-1 on their final game before the Christmas break.

The Broncos outshot the Hurricanes 36-25 and went 0/5 on the man advantage.
