Broncos Edged By Raiders in Shootout
30-Oct-12The Swift Current Broncos were edged 2-1 in a shootout to the Prince Albert Raiders at the Art Hauser Centre Tuesday night.
Neither team would get on the scoreboard until late in the second period when Levi Bews would round up his seventh of the season on the Broncos second power play opportunity of the evening to give Swift Current a 1-0 lead.
German import Leon Draisaitl would retaliate with a power play marker of his own minutes into the third period to lock the contest up at one. But, neither team would tally the much-needed game winner in regulation as they headed to overtime.
In the extra frame the Raiders would take a slight edge in shots at 3-1, but the game would still remain tied after the additional five minutes of play resulting in a shootout.
The shootout would see three Broncos (Graham Black, Brent Benson and Coda Gordon) take a chance against Luke Siemens with none finding the back of the net, while Chicago Blackhawks prospect Mark McNeill would struggle against netminder Eetu Laurikainen one-on-one. But the Raiders would send out Draisaitl in the second round of the shootout where he would slip one past Laurikainen and make it a 2-1 final.
The Broncos outshot the Raiders 31-29 and went 1 for 4 on the man advantage.
